Silk & Sawdust is a fashion label that takes its inspiration from vintage clothing and has recently announced its third collection for this coming autumn and coming winter. The latest collection has taken influence from the use of clean silhouettes seen in some 20th century clothing. All of the designs have been made to have timeless appeal and should bring a sophistication and elegance to those who wear them.
This new collection is currently available on the company’s website at http://silkandsawdust.com and prices range from around £70 up to £190. The range spans several decades from the 20th century so everyone should be able to find something they like – whether you are wanting the glamour of the Forties or the spirit of the Sixties, you are sure to find it in this new range.
Claudia Orrell is the owner and main designer of the clothing range and has said, “It seems that paying attention to the little details in modern clothes is all too common and this has lead to a ‘wear it once’ attitude. I want to create clothes that will last for years, not just a season.”
“My aim is to balance classic elegance with a truly modern ethos. In some ways my designs are slightly anti-fashion because you can wear them season after season. So they’re real investment pieces. But I’ve kept the costs reasonable too. I don’t believe
you should have to bankrupt yourself to own statement-making clothes. A great deal of my inspiration comes simply from a desire to make women feel gorgeous – whether they are an at-home-mum or a high-flying executive.”
All of the pieces are hand-tailored by skilled dressmakers. The fabrics are selected to ensure the clothes move with the body to flatter and make you feel extra glamorous – just like they did in days gone by. Claudia says, “I love this time of year – not least for the chance to replenish my wardrobe. The days may be drawing in but nobody minds treating themselves to a new coat or dress for the season. I’ve taken my inspiration from the jewel colours of the Bangkok markets where I source many of the materials for each collection. I’ve also had a little fun with hems this season – frills, diaphanous layers, and some cheeky shorter structures add even more variety to the look.”
Silk & Sawdust was a winner of Pure London’s Next Generation competition, presenting this A/W11 collection at Pure Spirit at Earls Court in February this year. The brand has also been involved in Norwich Fashion Week, receiving extensive press coverage.
