22 year old Lucinda Roberts from UCA Rochester is a stylish student who just finished a degree in fashion design and became the very first student from this university to attend the London Fashion Week thanks to some of the work she did at the Creative Arts school, finishing on top of a student competition called Fashion Scout and rewarding some of the most creative and enterprising fashion students at the school.
The young designer said that the whole event at the Fashion Week as surreal and it is an event every fashion designer dreams of going to, so as a student it is a huge privilege to be part of something most professionals only experience at the height of their career. Roberts saw her clothes go down the runway on models as they were being shown to an eager public, and the garments attracted a lot of attention in the public arena.
Roberts also said that this has been a very worthwhile experience to learn from and it was fantastic to see people react to the clothes on display. She wants to have her own label one day and this event gave her a taste of what this could feel like. The whole competition was described by Vogue as a springboard into the industry and is sure to bring a lot of opportunity to the right talents.
More than 100 students participated and had their designs in the contest this year alone, but only 15 had their designed selected to become actual outfits. The judges watched the catwalk and selected their favourite outfits in the lot. While Lucinda didn’t win the competition, she has her sight on the London Fashion Week for a nearby future.
