Lindsey Wixson, the 17 year old toppled in a voluminous silk gown three times and then fell once again in a runway appearance while in platforms and a sundress at the Fashion For Relief Show in Cannes.
She instantly righted herself sporting a big ear to ear grin and waving her arms as front row spectators attempted to aid. She is the model of the moment having already appeared in Mulberry, Jill Stuart and Alexander Queen campaigns this year. Cheri Bowen, her agent said she is intelligent about this business and will not sell out.
The charity show, to support the survivors of the tsunami and earthquake attracted a number of celebrities. A mix of non-professional and professional models donated all their time but the model of the moment Wixson was the one who had a spot of bother.
Hollywood legend Jane Fonda and Supermodel Yasmin Le Bon took to the stage as well as Bruce Forsyth, host of Strictly Come Dancing and his wife, a former Miss World, Wilnelia. Many stars that attended were already in town because of having attended the Cannes Film Festival celebrating its 64th year. Another on the runway included Robert De Niro’s wife Grace Hightower who is also the president of the Cannes jury for this year.
All of the proceeds from the ticket sales and an auction benefitted the Red Cross relief efforts for the Japanese victims of the earthquake and tsunami. An estimated £4.5 million has been raised by Fashion for Relief for charity. Miss Campbell said it was practically impossible to think of what the Japanese people have been through and the tragic losses they have had to cope with.
