Michelle Obama favours US designers for Olympic outfits

The Duchess of Cambridge stood up for British fashion during the opening ceremony for the Olympics dressed in Christopher Kane, whereas Michelle Obama also chose to represent her country wearing the US designed J. Mendel patriotic dress. The First Lady of America was one of the 200 distinguished guests that were personally welcomed to the UK for the games by the Queen, the Duchess, and other Royal Family members before the opening ceremony actually took place.

Both the Duchess of Cambridge and Michelle Obama are fashion conscious and leading ladies in their respective countries so it is likely that the duo had a few things to chat about at Buckingham Palace. Both of the women are also closely watched by their countries and other fashion commentators so it was interesting to see what they would show up wearing.

Kate choose to show the high side of British couture choosing an icy blue satin coat dress that was made by Britain’s own Christopher Kane. This was a rarity for Kate, because while she is known to often pick out high street clothes for this high profile event she chose a custom made outfit.

It was hard for to tell who won the limelight, Kate or Michelle, but Grazia magazine commentators did say that Kate chose a very fitting outfit to wear for meeting the First Lady of America. This is not the first time that the two ladies have actually met, as they actually met about a year ago when the Obamas came to London for a state visit.

Also joining Kate in welcoming Michelle Obama was the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Harry, the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Prince of Wales who all worked hard at making sure that all the visiting dignities felt at home.
