Stella McCartney the most googled designer in 2012

If anyone else wondered if 2012 was really the year of Stella McCartney, a quick Google search might help drive home the point. In fact, it turns out that this year her label was the leading search term in the annual Google Zeitgeist list for trending fashion labels.This year McCartney and her design team were responsible for designing the Team GB Olympic kit and also received both Designer Brand and Designer of the Year awards at the British Fashion Awards.

During her acceptance speech at the award ceremony McCartney told a story of an executive that she used to work with at Chloe that told her she would never be able to succeed if she launched a brand in Britain instead of Paris. Obviously, McCartney was able to prove him wrong as she became the first woman in the history of British fashion to launch a fashion brand that ended up going global.

Other popular search labels for in the fashion industry according to Google were Marks and Specner, Mulberry, Alice Temperley, Victoria’s Secret, Ossie Clark, LK Bennett, Karl Lagerfeld, Mulberry, Burberry, and Versace. In the ‘people’ category Kate Middleton and Whitney Houston were top search items.
