The Cambridge Satchel Company goes global

In the last few years, the Cambridge Satchel Company has expanded significantly and they have gone from a small business to one with global reach. The company was founded by Julie Deane and her mother in order to help pay for school fees.

Just three years ago the two women were running the business from home, but in the last three years alone the company has expanded to sell bags in 70 countries around the world. They expect the turnover figure to be around £10 million by the end of this year.

Ms Deane commented, “We took the traditional design of satchels and revitalised it and we see ourselves as a company combining traditional with the cutting edge. We have also had the pleasure of working with some of the countries most recognised brands including Dr Martens.”

The company manufactures all of its leather satchels in the UK. Domestic manufacturing is something that is becoming more popular in the country after there having been a significant period of decline. Customers are now being drawn to products that are specifically made in the UK as it says something about the craftsmanship and the heritage of the product.
