Anna Piaggi passed away this week at age 81 in her Milan home in Italy. As Milan is known without a doubt to be the style capital of the city it is only fitting that the legendary writer and tremendous style icon would pass away in this spot.
It will certainly be a much quieter fashion week without her flamboyant personalised outfits that are only upstaged by her heavily rouged cheeks, blue hair, and bright vivid lipstick colours. It is estimated that her personal wardrobe alone has almost three dresses in it and another two some shoes.
Piaggi was known for her very individual and unique style that was often raved about by top designers such as Marc Jacobs and Karl Lagerfeld. Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce have also praised her great sense of style in the past and her influence on the world of fashion by stating that is she is eccentric, creative, and all together unpredictable which when combined with her knowledge of fashion is unstoppable.
Stephen Jones also commented that for Anna, fashion was all about being frivolous and fun by appearances but those who knew her could see the discipline behind creating every look just right. While working for Vanity during the eighties Piaggi became friends with Manolo Blahnik who described her as one of the last great authorities on clothes.
Many fashion industry leaders have already taken to Twitter to remember Piaggi as word spread of her death. Franca Sozzani the Vogue Italia editor tweeted that she will always be remembered and Dita Von Teese tweeted that she was the height of glamour and will be missed.
