It has been quite a rise from four females that started out small and turned into a massive fashion group which now writes a grand publication and is awarded an MBE for services to fashion, but Lulu Kennedy is not shy about the direction her career has taken.
Kennedy is best known for her work with Fashion East, which is a nonprofit organisation that supports designers. According to the fashion aficionado, she has been made redundant plenty of times and in all actuality outside of raves Fashion East was the first real job that she was ever that enthused with.
Since Fashion East got its start back in 2000 it was worked with some of the best emerging and talented young fashion designers in the UK. It starts by offering new designers the much coveted London Fashion Week platform and has helped kickstart the very notable careers of Henry Holland, Jonathan Saunders, and Roksanda Ilincic.
In fact, some even call Kennedy the fairy godmother of fashion, although she does not exactly just give people their break, because the young designers that she helps out really have to work hard to earn their recognition.
As part of the ten year anniversary of the project, Kennedy created a clothing label titled Lulu & Co that brings together some great pieces by the alumni of the organisation and allows the mainstream public to get their hands on fashions by the now well-known designers in a more affordable manner.
Although it may not be as mass market as what you will find on high street, in its own way Lulu & Co helps make fashion a bit more hands-on for the middle class and makes it accessible enough that all parties benefit from its existence.
